A pedestrian was hit on the CSX railroad tracks near North Rogers Street in Aberdeen Monday night.
Police found a 24-year-old man suffering from injuries to his lower body. He was taken to Johns Hopkins Bayview Hospital and is in stable condition.
Investigators said three people were walking on the CSX tracks in a prohibited area when a train with 44 cars came by. Everyone made it out of the way safely except the victim.
The train's engineer sounded emergency warning to alert pedestrians of impending danger, yet they waited until the last second to clear the tracks, according to police.
Investigators have charged Radford Ashford, 22, with trespassing in the incident; the third person ran away before police arrived. Trespassing charges are pending for the victim.
The Aberdeen Police Department wants to remind the public that trespassing on railroad tracks is a dangerous crime.
