ABINGDON, Md. (WMAR) — A pedestrian was struck and killed on I-95 Wednesday evening.

According to Maryland State Police it happened near mile marker 77, Route 24 in Harford County. Investigators believe a driver was traveling southbound on I-95 when he struck the pedestrian in lane 1, the fast lane.

Troopers said the driver of the vehicle remained at the scene. While on the scene, police found a disabled vehicle north of the crash scene, which was found to be registered to the victim.

With help from the Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration, southbound lanes of Interstate 95 were closed as police investigated the crash.

The victim’s identity is being withheld pending next of kin notification. The victim was pronounced deceased on the scene by emergency medical service personnel.
