MD House of Delegates candidate hosts Gun/Cash bingo fundraiser

Posted

Nearly 350 people gathered at the Jarretsville fire hall Saturday for a bingo fundraiser, where winners had a chance to win cash and guns.

Eleven firearms were raffled off, including an AR 15 rifle, the same type of weapon used in the Florida high school mass shooting.

Republican Maryland House of Delegates candidate Aaron Penman and Harford County Sheriff Jeff Gahler hosted the Gun/Cash bingo fundraiser.

Several people gathered outside to protest the event, and held a vigil for the victims of gun violence. Democrat Allison Berkowitz, who is also running for a seat in the House of Delegates representing District 7 attended the vigil, and told stories of those killed by guns.

Both Berkowitz and Penman agree that a solution to gun violence in schools should be on lawmakers' minds, they differ on what needs to change. "This is a mental health issue. This is not a gun issue," said Penman. "This is an issue where we should have a conversation about improving things so that this doesn't happen again."

"We think that the rights need to change," Berkowitz said. "So we think that there should be better, different laws that can make our country safer and have there be less gun violence."
