After a police officer noticed an Havre de Grace Elementary School student riding a bicycle that was in very bad shape, he decided to surprise the elementary school student with a new bike.

PFC Coleman, known as an outdoorsman, related to the struggle that D'Andrew faced while riding a bike that was nearly falling apart.

The officer decided to take matters into his own hands and get the bike up and running in partnership with The Bike Shop of Bel Air. The staff at the shop repaired the brakes, replaced the tires, and made other major changes to make the bike new and fully equipped to ride.

PFC Coleman then went to the school and planned an end of the day surprise for D'Andrew. He was overjoyed and filled with tears when he saw his new and improved bike.

According to Havre de Grace Police, a large number of Havre de Grace Elementary School students bike to school. PFC Coleman plans to partner with an Havre de Grace Elementary School teacher and Carl from the bike shop to hold a bike club where bike maintenance can be taught after school.

They hope that the bike club initiative will help avoid unsafe bikes on the road, which can keep the student riders safe.
