First cannabis dispensary opens in Harford County

Posted

Harford County's first medical cannabis dispensary opened in Joppa, Md. Friday.

Located on Pulaski Highway, RISE Joppa is the tenth facility run by Green Thumb Industries, a national cannabis cultivator and dispensary operator with facilities in 10 states. The facility will operate from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

“We are so honored to be able to bring relief to more patients in Maryland who are suffering and can benefit from medical cannabis,” says GTI’s Maryland Market President Andy Grossman. “Harford County has been especially hard hit by the opioid epidemic and GTI is hopeful that by offering an alternative treatment for chronic pain and other conditions we can have a positive impact on this issue which is so important to families and the community.”

Patients suffering from cachexia, anorexia, wasting syndrome, severe pain, severe nausea, seizures, severe or persistent muscle spasms, glaucoma, post-traumatic stress disorder, and chronic pain are eligible to obtain medical cannabis cards in Maryland. Once a patient obtains a card, they are able to visit dispensaries and purchase medical cannabis. Though it is considered "medicine," insurance does not currently cover the cost of medicinal cannabis.

“This is a great day for the patients of Maryland and the state’s medical cannabis program,” says GTI Chief Executive Officer Pete Kadens. “Our goal at our RISE dispensaries is to provide the very best care to our patients while offering the most effective and quality medical marijuana available. We are thrilled to join the Joppa community and look forward to serving our patients.”
