FALLSTON, Md. (WMAR) — The Maryland Fire Marshal's Office is crediting a fire alarm system for the safe escape of sleeping homeowners, whose garage caught fire.

It happened Sunday around 4 a.m. in the 2000 block of Carrs Mill Road in Harford County.

One of the owners used three fire extinguishers to contain the flames before crews from the Fallston Volunteer Fire Company could arrive.

Firefighters ended up extinguishing the flames in about 10 minutes, preventing them from spreading to the attached 130-year-old home.

Investigators determined the cause to be accidental as result of a ceiling heater in the garage.

No one was hurt. The damage is estimated at $30,0000.
