BEL AIR, Md. (WMAR) — A Bel Air restaurant has decided to close its doors.

After 5-years, Alchemy Elements will no longer occupy the building at 528 Baltimore Pike.

The restaurant's owners made the announcement Wednesday night, in a Facebook post.

Last year, WMAR-2 News profiled the restaurant's owner, Chef Mike Matassa, known for his homemade crab cakes.

One of his main missions in opening the restaurant was to provide for his granddaughter, who he raises full time.

Matassa sprung into action and took full custody when his daughter began struggling with drug addiction and overdosed twice.

He even began to sell the crab cakes online.

WMAR-2 News has reached out to Matassa to see if he still plans on selling his delicious crab cakes.
