A new bill could allow collective bargaining between Harford County and the office of the sheriff.
A previous bill was pulled, but today the county's sheriff union announced that House Bill 1431 was introduced on the issue.
The bill would allow the sheriff's union and correctional deputies to bargain with the sheriff and county executive on the matters of pay and benefits. The union said there's no formal mechanism for negotiations like that currently.
Harford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler has been critical of the pay structure for deputies, citing it as a reason some of them leave to work in other places.
