A man has been charged with animal cruelty after police say he punished his cat by dunking it under water in a toilet.

The Aberdeen Police Department responded to the Fairbrooke Apartments at 700 W. Bel Air Avenue Tuesday night after a concerned citizen reported an injured animal.

After an investigation, police discovered a “severely traumatized” cat owned by 62-year-old tenant Albert R Knox, Jr. Officers say they observed the cat to be water soaked, wounded and disoriented.

Based on Knox’s statements and a witness interview, officers determined that Knox attempted to correct the cat’s behavioral issues by dunking it underwater in a toilet and bathtub. Other physical injuries were also visible on the cat, according to police.

Knox was arrested and faces two charges of animal cruelty and aggravated cruelty to an animal.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office Animal Control Unit took the one-year-old female cat for an emergency veterinary evaluation.
