Dozens of ponies got a chance to cool off Wednesday during their annual swim from Assateague Island to Chincoteague Island. It was the 91st annual pony swim.
Thousands of visitors watched as the Saltwater Cowboys rounded up the ponies and herded them into the water. The Coast Guard was on hand to enforce the safety zone and make sure everything went smoothly.
Once the ponies made it to shore, they rested for a while before heading off to the carnival grounds.
On Thursday, the ponies are auctioned to raise money for the Chincoteague Volunteer Fire Company.
