OCEAN CITY, Md. (AP) -- First responders have rescued five people from waters off the coast of Ocean City.
Town spokeswoman Jessica Waters says the Ocean City Fire Department and Beach Patrol pulled five swimmers in distress from the ocean Monday afternoon. Waters says three adults attempted to enter the water to rescue two children who had been in distress. The adults also became caught up in the rip current.
Waters says one man was airlifted to a hospital with upper body injuries. Three other patients were taken by ambulance. One person rescued did not require any medical attention.
Lifeguards are not currently present at the beach because it is off-season. Waters says people should stay out of the water when it is unsupervised.
