A local resident donated $30,000 to the Carroll County Department of Recreation and Parks Wednesday.
Kenneth Wayman and Catherine McAuliffe donated the money to the Park Legacy Fund to improve Piney Run Park. The funds will be used to replace and upgrade the existing lakeside gazebo, transforming it into a wildlife viewing area. The area will have viewing scopes for bird watching and informational signage on local wildlife.
Recreation and Parks direction Jeff Degitz said he was thrilled with the donation.
"We are thrilled to receive such a generous donation to make these improvements to one of our most popular parks," he said. "We remain indebted to the many citizens who continue to support the Park Legacy Fund as a way to support park improvements for the enjoyment of current and future generations."
The Park Legacy Foundation was established to supplement public funds. Donations can be designated for specific purposes or locations.
