BALTIMORE — On Thursday, volunteers installed new rain gardens by the Harris Creek Outfall in an effort to support water health in Baltimore.

20 volunteers from constellation installed more than 850 native plants in Harris Creek Park. The gardens will capture and filter polluted storm water runoff preventing it from entering the harbor.

"The bigger these plants grow, the more effective they'll be," said Adam Lindquist, Director of Healthy Harbor. "Starting today, rainwater coming off of Boston Street will get filtered by the rain garden."

The gardens will be maintained by Healthy Harbor and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation. This is a part of the waterfront partnership's healthy harbor initiative.
