1 injured after vehicle explosion in Pikesville

A joint investigation continues with the State Fire Marshall's office, Maryland Transit Administration Police and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco and Firearms after one person was injured in a vehicle explosion in Pikesville Monday morning. 

Emergency crews reported to 4380 Old Court Road just after 8 a.m. and quickly extinguished a large parking lot fire involving several vehicles.

One male victim, later identified as David J. Kotofski, 64, was flown to University of Maryland Shock Trauma with a facial injury. 

The initial investigation determined that  Kotofski was transporting compressed gas cylinders from his work truck to his personal vehicle when the accidental explosion occurred. 

The Maryland Fire Marshall was called to the scene to investigate and a total of nine cars were involved, according to police. 

 As a precaution, a nearby building was forced to evacuate 30 employees and additional crews came to aid to ensure safety due to the location of the explosion. 

The incident reportedly look place at an MTA facility and no other injuries were reported.
