BALTIMORE — Thursday was Baltimore County's Department of Aging's first No Senior Eats Alone day.
Library branches in Baltimore County served lunch to celebrate the day. The event is all about combating social isolation and striking up new relationships with members of the senior community.
"It's been shown that sharing meals improves health, happiness in senior populations," said Brian Wyckman, Assistant Library Manager.
Research has proven that isolation has detrimental effects on someone's physical and mental health.
Loneliness and social isolation has the same effect as smoking 15 cigarettes a day.
