A 36-year-old man has been charged with arson after setting a fire at the Spring Grove Hospital Center in Catonsville.

Baltimore County Fire officials said Steven Paul Golob set fire to “dried vegetation” outside of a building on the Hospital Center’s property at 55 Wade Avenue around 10 a.m. Monday.

The flames extended to an air conditioning unit and caused damage to the exterior of the building.

Crews responded to the fire and extinguished the flames within minutes. Damage was estimated at nearly $1,500.

Spring Grove Police detained Golob for questioning. He was transported to St. Agnes Hospital and confessed to setting the fire, officials said.

Golob was taken into custody upon release and and transported to the Baltimore County Detention Center. He's been charged with first-degree and second-degree arson, first-degree malicious burning, reckless endangerment and malicious destruction of property.

He's being held on a $250,000 bond.
