A fire rescue boat is out of service due to a theft of marine electronics and radio systems located inside of the vessel. The equipment provided rescue services to the upper Chesapeake Bay.
Officials report that suspects stole $13,000 worth of equipment just after 11:00 p.m. Monday night at the Beacon Marina located at 825 Bowleys Quarter Road. They say several other vessels were also boarded by the suspects who left with everything from yeti coolers to electronics and PFD's.
It is expected that insurance will pay for a portion of the loss, but the non-profit volunteer Marine Team will be liable for the extra expense of returning the vessel to service.
The vessel, also known as the Marine Unit 217, will remain out of service until funding and equipment can replace what was stolen.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Baltimore County Police Marine Crimes Division.
