Inmate indicted for murder of fellow inmate at Washington County prison

PIKESVILLE, Md. — An inmate at the Maryland Correctional Training Center has been indicted on charges connected to the death of a prison inmate following an assault on May 29 in Washington County.

Maryland State Police say that 39-year-old Thomas Cole is charged with second-degree murder and associated assault charges according to the criminal indictment by the Washington County State's Attorney's Office.

Cole was already in custody prior to the alleged assault.

Police conducted an investigation with assistance from the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigations Unit. The dead inmate Ronnie Harris, 56 was transported to a local hospital after he was found unresponsive. He died a day later and his cause of death was ruled to be blunt force trauma.

Harris' death was ruled a homicide.
