UPDATE: All lanes of the Key Bridge reopened around 6:40 p.m. Thursday.

A brush fire beneath the roadway caused a temporary closure of all lanes on the Key Bridge Thursday evening, according to the Maryland Transportation Authority.

Officials closed the bridge because the fire's smoke caused poor visibility. The Fort McHenry can be used as an alternate.

Delays have been heavy on I-695 approaching the Key Bridge Thursday afternoon. The left lanes were close through the evening rush hour after a crash that left a truck on the center median.
