Two people are in the hospital after a Monday afternoon apartment fire in Cockeysville. It happened on Athenry Court around 2 p.m.
Baltimore County firefighters put the flames out here at the Hickory Hill Apartments relatively quickly. From the outside, the only trace of a fire is a hole on the roof.
According to a spokesman with Baltimore County Fire, the fire started on a second floor unit. Once firefighters were able to get inside the apartment, they found a man who was suffering from injuries. He was taken to the hospital. He’s listed in critical condition.
“When crews first arrived there was heavy fire and smoke conditions inside the apartment building itself. Right over the stairwell, had made a cut in the roof to allow some of the hot gases and smoke to escape,” Capt. Tim Rostkowski said.
There was also a woman who was taken to the hospital. Apparently, she never went inside the apartment, but was taken after suffering what a spokesman from the fire department says were stress related conditions.
In all, four units were damaged. Somewhere between five to seven people have been displaced. ABC2 News still working to figure out the cause of the fire.
