She started her career like everyone else -- at an entry level position. Now, she's the highest ranking woman in the history of the Baltimore County Fire Department.

Assistant Fire Chief Jennifer Aubert-Utz was honored for her accomplishments Thursday. She has been with the department for the last 17 years.

"This is huge for me, I never would have dreamed in a million years that I'd be one of the assistant fire chiefs, so it's very humbling. At times, it can be overwhelming to put it into perspective to be the first female, but it's truly humbling," she said.

Aubert-Utz hopes she inspires other young women to pursue careers in community service.
