Police are urging caution after a series of scam phone calls to residents in Baltimore County about jury duty.
The department reports the caller claims to be with the Baltimore County Sheriff's Office, then tells the resident they've missed jury duty and will need to pay a fine to clear their record.
In order to do that, the caller instructs the resident to purchase a pre-paid debit card and call back with the card number.
The Baltimore County Sheriff's Office said it never asks anyone for money over the phone and urges anyone who receive this scam call to hang up and report it to the local precinct.
The department suggests anyone with questions about jury duty to call the Office of the Jury Commissioner at (410) 887-3596.
