The annual Memorial Day Ceremony at Dulaney Valley Gardens was held on Monday in Timonium to honor and salute those in the armed forces who bravely defended the United States of America through service.

Hundreds of people gathered the memorial to also honor six Maryland service members that were killed in within the past year.

The event included music, speeches, a wreath laying, and a 21-gun salute.

The ceremony also featured dignitaries and a slate of local participants like the mother of one of the lost soldiers.

"Ceremonies like today help us to pick up the pieces of our shattered hearts. In Nathan's short life he did more than most, he lived life, and now we reflect. His character, drive, and service continues to inspire and impress us today. We are so proud of our son, for the men and women who have served, and the families that support them," said Jeanette Middleton-Sudano, a mother of an airman who was killed.

This marks the 51st anniversary of the ceremony.
