Dr. Zainab Chaudry is a Muslim woman who stands up for her beliefs and refuses to be silenced. Growing up in a male-dominated Punjabi household taught her that if she didn't speak up, someone would speak for her.

Zainab currently works as the Maryland Outreach Manager for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). We talked to Zainab about what it's like to be a woman -- specifically, a Muslim woman -- in today's society.

"I think being a woman in [this] society, there's kind of this perception of how a woman should be, like what makes a woman attractive or what makes her acceptable," she said. "I've always wanted to break those molds and realign what society's perception is of what a woman should be, what makes us attractive or what makes us special or unique or powerful."
