Congratulations! It's a... Trash Wheel! And in September we'll find out the gender of the Canton Water Wheel.

The Waterfront Partnership is hosting a gender reveal party in an effort to raise the remaining money to make the Canton Trash Wheel a reality.

“People have been speculating about the gender of the new trash wheel since we announced that we started fundraising for it,” Adam Lindquist, director of the Healthy Harbor Initiative said in a statement.

“With this event, we hope to continue to bring awareness to the incredible technology that is cleaning up our Harbor and also to raise enough funds to get the new Trash Wheel installed by the end of this year.”

The Canton Trash Wheel project is 99 percent funded right now and about $12,000 away from the final goal of $550,000.

The new wheel be at the Harris Creek outfall near Harris Creek Park. It will use solar and hydropower to scoop up trash and keep it out of the Harbor and Chesapeake Bay.

The big gender reveal party is scheduled for Thursday, September 22 at the Marriott Waterfront Hotel. It runs from 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door. All money raised through ticket sales will go toward the world's second trash wheel. When purchasing tickets each attendee will have the opportunity to vote on the gender of the Canton Trash Wheel.

A ticket will get you an open bar of wine and beer, an appetizer buffet, live music and a special appearance by the inventor of both trash wheels, John Kellett.
