The Port of Baltimore welcomed its first supersized container ship Tuesday.

The "Evergreen Ever Lambert" container ship came to charm city from the newly expanded Panama Canal. Maryland State Senator Barbara Mikulski, who has led the fight for the last 30 years, was on hand for the arrival.

"We've worked to get a 50 ft. channel to accommodate new ships, to find dredge sites to put the dredge in an environmentally sensitive way," Mikulski said.

The democratic senator has fought to secure more than $1 billion in federal funds to maintain the Port of Baltimore

"Where we've worked at team Maryland, 6 governors and the Maryland delegation getting federal funds and state funds to put money in the federal check boss," Mikulski added, "so we could have jobs in the Port of Baltimore."
