A new study shows the unrest in Baltimore in 2015 caused depression symptoms among mothers in affected neighborhoods.
According to the University of Maryland's School of Medicine, half of the mothers who lived in these areas suffered from insomnia, loss appetite and other symptoms. Researchers say the sight of burning buildings, looting and constant blue lights from police cars had a major emotional impact on six zip codes.
When the nearly 1100 mothers were surveyed five months after the riots, the signs of depression fell to levels prior.
