Leadership program Lead2Feed has awarded special needs students attending The Harbour School of Baltimore in Owings Mills a prize for their dedication to combating social issues.

The students won $25,000 grant for the nonprofit of their choice, and $10,000 in technology products in the fourth annual Lead2Feed Challenge.

The Lead2Feed Challenge encourages students to raise awareness of social issues by studying leadership lessons, forming teams and creating programs to address community needs. The students at The Harbour School developed their initiative over the course of more than 4,500 service learning hours.

Students wired and published children’s books about hunger, poverty and illiteracy, which were mailed to 16 states and seven countries. The organization Harbouring Hope and its partners also collected over 2,000 pounds of non-perishable food items to be donated to the Maryland Food Bank.

The Lead2Feed Student Leadership Program is the nation’s fastest growing leadership program that has helped more than 1 million student members use their leadership skills to make a change.
