School bus transporting students catches fire on Loch Raven Boulevard

BALTIMORE, Md. — A school bus transporting 20 students from Monarch Academy Baltimore caught on fire at Loch Raven Boulevard on Thursday afternoon.

School officials say the bus was en route to its final stop on McClean Boulevard when the fire started.

The bus driver suffered from smoke inhalation and was treated by medics on the scene before being sent to the hospital. Luckily, all 20 students on the bus were safely evacuated and have no reported injuries. The student were later picked up by their families.

The school and Mayor Pugh are commending the bus driver and bus aide for saving the children. Monarch Academy Baltimore says they will reach out to all families offering any additional support they may need.

The bus company along with the Baltimore City Fire Department are investigating the cause of the fire.
