Red light cameras to return to Baltimore City

Baltimore City plans to bring back speed and red light cameras in the near future.

The camera program, which will include red light, speed and commercial truck enforcement cameras will be rolled out no earlier than June, with a 30 day warning period for drivers.

The City is currently deciding between six applicants. The contracts are expected to be presented to the Board of Estimates in April or May 2017.

Vendors will not receive a portion of each ticket as before. Instead they get a flat fee per camera, per month therefore removing the incentive to send inaccurate citations.

The initial order is for 36 cameras. All camera locations will be published on a website which will be launched at the beginning of the program.
