The Parking Authority of Baltimore City (PABC) and the Mayor's Office on Disabilities launched Phase 3 of ProjectSPACE in Federal Hill Monday.

The initiative will provide more on-street parking for persons who are disabled and decrease the theft or abuse of disability placard cards.

"Every month here in Baltimore City, 23 disability placards were being stolen," said Peter Little, the executive director of PABC. "After Phase one of ProjectSPACE, the number was reduced to fewer than three per month that were being stolen from people with disabilities."

PABC has installed accessible single-space meters at these reserved spaces and has retrofitted existing multi-space EZ Park meters to meet most current American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.

ProjectSPACE is already in the Central Business District, Harbor East and Fells Point. Phase four of the project will add handicap parking spaces in Mt. Vernon.
