Seven penguin chicks will be introduced to the Penguin Coast Thursday morning.
The chicks hatched between October 20, 2016 and November 18, 2016. They've been slowly introduced to the colony inside the Conservation Center and are now ready for the deep end of the pool.
The introduction begins at 9 a.m. and the Zoo opens to the public at 10 a.m.
This year the Zoo hatched 12 penguin chicks during the season. These seven are old enough to join the
adults and older juveniles in the main colony, while the remaining five chicks are still too young. The youngest chicks will be joining the colony in a few months time.
The chicks from this breeding season are all named using the theme "space." Tomorrow the chicks to be
introduced are:
- Hydra hatched 10/20/16
- Apollo - hatched 10/22/16
- Luna hatched 10/25/16
- Hubble - hatched 11/11/17
- Io - hatched 11/13/17
- Sputnik - hatched 11/15/16
- Sirius - hatched 11/18/16
