A Pennsylvania man was arrested after Transportation Security Administration officers caught him trying to carry a loaded handgun past a security checkpoint at BWI Tuesday.

TSA officials said the Cumberland County resident had a .32 caliber handgun loaded with six bullets and claimed he didn't  know he had the gun with him.

The officers contacted the Maryland Transportation Authority Police who removed the firearm and arrested the man on state weapons charges.

According to the TSA, anyone who brings firearms to a checkpoint could face possible criminal charges up to $12,000.

Travelers should check their airline regarding firearm and ammunition carriage policies.
