New city trash can program begins in Penn-North

Some Baltimore residents will receive new trash cans as part of the city’s push to keep neighborhood streets clean and to cut down on the number of rodents.

Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake and the Department of Public Works will begin distributing the trash cans in the Penn-North Community near Reservoir Hill Tuesday. The entire city will receive trash cans this summer.

Last year, the city initiated a pilot trash can program in the Belair Edison and Greater Mondawmin areas. Officials say the program will also help make trash collection more efficient.

The cans are assigned specifically to each home address and will remain the property of Baltimore City.

Trash can delivery begins at 9 a.m. Tuesday at Francis Street and Whitelock Street.
