BALTIMORE — Mr. Trash Wheel has been eating up trash at the harbor for five years now, and to celebrate the milestone, city officials are throwing the world-famous trash interceptor a birthday party!

They're calling it a 'Classy Trashy Birthday Bashy,' and it will be held on Saturday, May 11 from 7 to 10 p.m. at the Peabody Heights Brewery.

The floating debris collector has been happily gorging at the mouth of the Jones Falls River, located between Piers V and VI in the Inner Harbor. The contraption uses both the water’s current and solar powered panels to move a conveyor belt that lifts refuse out of the water and into a dumpster that is changed out periodically when it’s full.

Early bird tickets are on sale right now for $30.

So far, Mr. Trash Wheel has helped remove more than two million pounds of trash and debris from the Inner Harbor.
