March 16 is Match Day.

Med Students across the country open an envelope that reveals where they'll be spending the next few years of their lives.

This is they day they learn their residency placement.

At the Hippodrome Theater, the University of Maryland School of Medicine more than 100 students received their envelopes.

Matches are determined by the National Resident Match Program which uses a complex algorithm to determine who goes where.

Residency training is essential to becoming a doctor. During residency, graduates start training in their medical specialties.
