A Maryland SPCA pup has lost his battle with Parvo.

Last month, the Maryland SPCA shared the story of Luca and Manny, two puppies battling Parvo, a disease transmitted between dogs that destroys the digestive and intestinal tracts of pups who haven't been vaccinated. The disease is fatal if left untreated.

Manny and Luca were taken to the Pet+E.R. to receive "the most comprehensive, around-the-clock, critical care they needed for a chance to survive," Tina Regester of the Maryland SPCA said in an email.

Monday, Luca lost his battle. He was just nine weeks old.

The Maryland SCPA says Manny is currently doing well and continues to receive live-saving treatment.

Vaccinations are the best way to keep your dog protected from Parvo and other devastating illnesses. Ask your vet if your pet is up-to-date with vaccinations.
