A new high-tech driving range is coming to Baltimore within the next year and on Tuesday, city leaders are officially welcoming Topgolf to South Baltimore by rolling out the green carpet.

It's all part of a larger plan to create an entertainment district around M&T Bank Stadium and the Horseshoe Casino. For the event, city leaders and executives with Topgolf will be arriving on golf carts and the mayor will be having a putting contest with some of those executives.

There's a lot of excitement over Topgolf coming to South Baltimore, and to think this almost didn't happen. Topgolf is being built in the spot currently occupied by the animal shelter BARCS, but the first deal to move BARCS to another location fell through.

Then last month the City Board of Estimates approved relocating BARCS to Cherry Hill and helping to cover the moving costs, paving the way for Topgolf to be built near the Horseshoe Casino, and start the bigger plans of creating an entertainment district.

If you've never heard of Topgolf, it's like a mix of bowling and golf. You get your own putting lane, you can keep score, and eat and drink while you play.

This is one of two new locations coming to Maryland within the next year.
