The fire is at a the Whitehouse & Schapiro Recycling Plant on the 1600 block of E. Patapsco Ave. in the Brooklyn. The roof and part of the back wall collapsed.

Roads are closed due to the fire.

Fire crews were called to the scene at 6:49 in the morning. Smoke can be seen from miles away.

The general manager of the company, Whitehouse and Schapiro LLC, was in the warehouse when the fire started. He was not injured.

According employees on the scene, the warehouse is full of clothes, toys, statues and packaging supplies that were supposed to be donated to those in need.

The company collects items that Goodwill cannot sell, recycles them and sends them around the world.

Fire crews say it is going to take all day to put out the fire.

Information has also come in that there are propane tanks on the outside of the building that may be exposed to the fire.

This warehouse is not far from a chemical plant where an acid leak took place last week.
