Librarian Carla Hayden named Baltimore Woman of the Year

Mayor Catherine Pugh will honor Dr. Carla Hayden as Baltimore Woman of the Year on Wednesday.

Pugh will host a Sister Circle reception to commemorate Women's History Month and to honor Hayden, who was sworn in as the 14th Librarian of Congress last year.

Hayden formerly headed the Enoch Pratt Free Library system in Baltimore.

She is the first woman and first African-American to lead the national library since it was started in 1800.

Hayden is the third professional librarian to get the job.

The reception to celebrate Hayden's achievements will start at 6 p.m. at City Hall.
