BALTIMORE, Md. — Baltimore Orioles pitcher John Means joined The Hartford and The Baltimore City Fire Department for fire safety day at Beechfield Elementary Middle School on Tuesday.

There were several hands on learning activities for the students, like simulated fire and smoke demonstrations. Students also got the chance to meet local firefighters and tour a fire truck. More than 200 students were also deputized as Junior Fire Marshals.

"You have to practice for perfection," said Means. "So getting these kids and doing it and getting them practice and going through these drill today is going to help them later."

According to The Hartford Home Fire Index, Baltimore is ranked No. 28 among the the top 100 cities with the highest home fire risk.
