Attorney Ivan Bates filed to run for Baltimore City State's Attorney Monday.

He is challenging current State's Attorney Marilyn Mosby. Bates is the only person to officially file to run for the position, according to the Maryland Board of Elections website.

Bates is an army veteran who began his career in Baltimore as a Law Clerk. He later worked as a prosecutor for the Baltimore City State's Attorney's office before becoming a defense attorney.

Thiru Vignarajah has also announced his run for the position. He has not officially filed but does have a campaign website.

The former deputy Maryland Attorney General is no stranger to the Baltimore State's Attorney office. He led the Major Investigations Unit.

Candidates have until 9 p.m. Tuesday to file for the primaries on June 26.
