BALTIMORE — On Wednesday, GBMC unveiled a tribute wall to its volunteers over the years.

It gives viewers a look at the history of GBMC volunteer auxiliary. A small group of women created the auxiliary in 1963.

More than 1,000 volunteers donated their time and help to GBMC.

"We have one of the best groups of volunteers in the area, we wouldn't be here without them. They literally built this hospital, we just wanted to do something to make sure that they know how special they are and what an impact on our patients and families in our community," said Carmen Baeza, Director of Volunteer Services.

Since 1963, volunteers have given nearly 3.5 million hours and have contributed nearly $30 million to support patient care.
