Spike Lee will deliver Hopkins commencement

Earlier today, Johns Hopkins University announced that filmmaker, Spike Lee will deliver this year's commencement speech. 

Several films directed by Lee feature some of Hollywood's top actors and actresses.

The University's spokesperson says that Lee's films have addressed the challenging topics that surround race and prejudice. Lee has made it his life work to speak out against controversial issues and, recently tackled the topic of gun control in the film, Chi-Raq that touches on Chicago's gang violence. 

The man who has served as a director, writer, and actor will be presented with an honorary doctorate along with several thousand Hopkins students.

Johns Hopkins University commencement ceremony will be held at Baltimore's downtown Royal Farms arena on May 18, 2016.

The ceremony is being held at the arena for the first time and will not be open for the public to attend.
