Exaggerator knocks off Nyquist in Preakness

In a shocking upset, Exaggerator ran past heavy favorite Nyquist on Saturday in the 141st Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland.

Exaggerator was able to brave a sloppy track and beat Nyquist by a slim margin. Rains had pounded the Baltimore area for much of the day on Saturday, making for an extremely muddy surface.

Exaggerator’s win knocks Nyquist out of the running for the Triple Crown. Nyquist was aiming to become the second straight horse to conquer the Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes in the same year after American Pharaoh achieved the feat last year. A Triple Crown has never occurred in back-to-back years.
