BALTIMORE — Plans for renaming the Courthouse East building in Baltimore to the Elijah E. Cummings Courthouse were unveiled on Friday.

Mayor Jack Young declared January 18 as Elijah Cummings Day in Baltimore.

Cummings died in October after serving as a politician at the state and national level for decades. He had been the congressman for Maryland's seventh district since 1996.

Members of the Baltimore City delegations released a statement about how much Cummings loved Baltimore and how naming a courthouse in the heart of downtown after him was a fitting tribute.
