BALTIMORE — Filling more construction trade jobs in the area, Associated Builders and Contractors Greater Baltimore is moving to the city.

The company is building an education hub for apprenticeship training as well.

On Monday, officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the construction education academy. The new facility is in partnership with Skillforce Inc. and will double their capacity for construction apprenticeships.

It will also have 11 classrooms and six hands-on shops.

"These training opportunities for contractors and Baltimore residents are desperately needed and that is why I'm so happy to be here to celebrate a momentous groundbreaking," said Tiffany Robinson Secretary of Department of Labor. "You are not only helping Marylander's get jobs, but you're helping them get careers and you have our full support"

Last year, ABC Greater Baltimore trained more than 2,500 construction personnel and management.

Apprentices can earn while they learn and after graduating will get 24 college credits through CCBC and BCCC.
