A town hall meeting involving those hoping to serve as monitors of the city’s consent decree is being held Thursday.

Residents are encouraged to attend and ask questions of the more than two dozen people who applied for positions on the task force, which is aimed at providing more civilian oversight of the Baltimore Police Department.

The task force is part of the consent decree between the U.S. Department of Justice and the police department.

"These will be the people who will keep the police department in check," Elizabeth Alex, Regional Director for CASA, said in a statement. "This part of the process is very important if the community is going to continue having a role in how we handle police abuse cases."

The town hall will be held at Coppin State University at 6 p.m. The No Boundaries Coalition will have a free bus leaving from St Peter Claver Church at 5:30 p.m.
