City state's attorney Marilyn Mosby was noticeably absent when a new ordinance on illegal gun laws was proposed Monday. Thursday, she gave her stance on mandatory sentences for those caught with illegal guns.
"Am I for strengthening gun control in the city of Baltimore? I absolutely am. And if this ordinance passes, I will be using my discretion to go after violent repeat offenders," she said.
If passed, the bill would force judges to hand out a prison sentence of at least one year to anyone convicted of illegally carrying a handgun near a Baltimore school, church, park or other public areas.
The bill will go before committee Tuesday at 10 a.m.
