Super Bowl champion and Baltimore native Cyrus Jones was honored by Baltimore City Council president Bernard "Jack" Young and Mayor Catherine Pugh Thursday.

Jones, now a cornerback with the New England Patriots, is a graduate of Leith Walk Elementary School. He met with the students and talked about the benefits of academic and athletics achievements to his success in the NFL.

"I knew from the very instant that I saw the drive and determination in him that this kid was going somewhere," Young said. "And he ended up in the pros his first year."

Jones was recognized for his volunteer work with young people as well as his football accomplishments.

"I'm just proud to say that I'm from Baltimore City, and I went to Leith Walk Elementary School," Jones said.
